DriverInbound is a mobile app that aggregates user-submitted guides on approach and parking for delivery truck drivers. The app hosts guides for thousands of locations, making it faster, safer, and easier to deliver in a world where time is money.
As with any profession, truckers have a language all their own, distinct from typical online lingo. Ensuring the app got through to all truckers, no matter how tech-savvy, gave me the opportunity to immerse myself in trucker culture and learn that unique language for myself.

My Process
When I joined the team, the app’s core functionality was strong, but the UI needed a full rework. To start, I created lo-fi wireframes in Figma with an emphasis on clean, transparent navigation.
Next, I developed a new logo. The product owner was most excited about a steering wheel, especially when I modeled it after his own.
DriverInbound’s palette went through a few iterations. I’ve included some of my drafts alongside the final palette and a sample of the project’s font, the classy but highly legible General Sans.
Some of my proudest work on this project was on iconography. Thorough research, testing, and surveying was integral to the creation of the Hazard & Amenity icons, which convey vital information to our truckers with symbolism they can reliably parse at a glance.
On the off chance that a particular user found them obtuse, I added explanatory popups that appear when an icon is tapped.
Once I returned to Figma to create the hi-fi mockup, I realized our process for creating posts was bloated. I took the initiative to overhaul it, ensuring that the new process obtained the same vital information in a more streamlined and efficient format.
I implemented the UI in Unity myself, complete with animations. Other finishing touches included promotional materials for print and web, as well as a selection of default profile pictures for our users.
Final Delivery
DriverInbound was the first app I designed from start to finish. It was an integral learning experience for me, with many features and functions I remain proud of and many others I’d update in a heartbeat given the chance. Regardless, I’m grateful to have had the remarkable opportunity to uplift the LTL trucker community and hone my skills.
You can download DriverInbound on the Android and iOS app stores.
